At VfL Wolfsburg there is a crisis mood after the surprising 0-1 defeat against 1. FC Heidenheim. “In the last seven games we have to be careful not to break the good season that we have played so far,” said coach Ralph Hasenhüttl. “We are now going into the decisive phase and we are making our worst game of the season: of course that is very disappointing. And that may also be a sign that we are not up to the pressure at such a moment.”
Sports director Sebastian Schindzielorz clearly criticized the team’s attitude: “No matter which staff is on the pitch: You can already expect VfL Wolfsburg that you have everything in and everyone is trying to get the best possible.
The Wolfsburgers have given the clear season goal to qualify for international competition. In the meantime, however, the team has been winning for five home games in the Bundesliga. Against none of the four relegation candidates Holstein Kiel (2: 2), VfL Bochum (1: 1), FC St. Pauli (1: 1) and Heidenheim (0: 1), VfL has won at home in recent months.
“In any case, we can’t go on – that’s clear,” said Schindzielorz. “This is an absolutely disappointing day for us.”
