According to a leaked document from the Pentagon, the United States will probably not help Europe in the event of a Russian attack. In secret guidelines of Minister of Defense Pete Hegseeth, it is acknowledged that the Trump government will provide little or no support to Europe.
The document Interim National Defense Strategic Guidance – in the hands of The Washington Post – states that the US could only support Europe with troops that are not necessary for the domestic defense or the deterrent of China. This confession fits in with recent calls from Hegseeth and other government officials to European allies to invest more in their own defense.
The document also emphasizes the importance of re -focusing the military focus on China, because of the fear of a possible conflict in the Pacific Ocean about Taiwan. In contrast to his predecessor Joe Biden, Trump indicated last year to not defend Taiwan against a Chinese invasion.
The document, which according to The Post “Fingerprints” of the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation contains, supports recent comments that the US would put pressure on allies worldwide to invest more in defense spending. That is why allies are encouraged to take the lead in detecting aggression of Russia, North Korea and Iran.
The Heritage Foundation is behind the so -called Project 2025, a manifesto for a more conservative US. During his campaign, Trump said he had nothing to do with Project 2025 several times, but The Post sees strong similarities between the manifesto and the policy of the Republican government leader.
