Sweden announces the highest help package to Ukraine valued at almost 1.5 billion euros

The Sweden Government announced on Monday that to date is the largest help package for Ukraine, valued at about 16,000 million Swedish crowns (around 1,480 million euros), of which more than half will be destined to the acquisition of weapons.

“Sweden today presented its largest military support package to Ukraine to date, valued at almost 1.6 billion dollars. The package includes, among other things, support for air defense, artillery, satellite communications and maritime capacity,” said Swedish Defense Minister Pal Johnson.

According to the Swedish authorities, about 9,200 million crowns (850 million euros) will serve for the purchase of weapons, ammunition and air defense systems, although at the moment the specific purchases that Ukraine will make with these funds have not been specified.

Another 5,000 million crowns (462 million euros) will be allocated to several funds and coalitions that buy teams for Ukraine, some mechanisms that, according to Jonson, serve to channel “much of the international military support”, such as the defense contact group, known as Grupo Rammstein.

On the other hand, the armed forces of Sweden will send spare parts and more material such as machine guns and up to a hundred vehicles valued in another 500 million crowns (about 46 million euros), as Jonson has detailed in his official profile in the social network X.

“Russia has the initiative in the war and we must support Ukraine to break that trend,” said Swedish Defense Minister, who just two months ago announced another military aid package valued at almost 1.2 billion euros.

With this new millionaire aid, Sweden will raise more than 65,000 million Swedish crowns (more than 6,000 million euros) his military support to Ukraine from the outbreak of the war, initiated at the end of February 2022 after the invasion order of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
