China sees in the US exemptions “a small step” and asks Trump to recognize “the error” of tariffs

The Chinese government has responded this Sunday to tariff exemptions on electronic products declared by the United States as a “small step” when correcting a wrong decision but has asked the president of the United States to recognize the “error” that has made and completely cancel the additional taxes that ordered last April 2.

North American exemptions, published in a Bulletin of the Customs Office and Border Protection of the country, represent a limitation of encumbrances by excluding smartphones, computers, microprocessors and other electronic products of two types of tariffs: the 125% tariff applied to China and the base tariff of 10% for almost all other countries.

In response, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce has indicated that right now “it is evaluating the relevance of the impact” of the exemptions, but has estimated anyway that “it is a small step to correct the wrong practice representing the reciprocal rates.”

Beijing considers that, since the outbreak of the tariff war, “the United States has not only managed to solve any internal problems, but has seriously undermined the international economic and commercial order, seriously interfered with the normal production and functioning of companies and the life and consumption of people, and have harmed others.”

In this sense, the Chinese government urges the United States to “listen to rational voices” both inside and outside its borders and follow this decision with “a great step to correct its errors, and completely eliminate this practice” to “return to the path of mutual respect and the resolution of differences through dialogue in equal terms.”
