The German police caught five French and a Belgian woman who were broken into in the Dom van Keulen in the night from Saturday to Sunday. They had climbing material with them and were on their way to one of the towers.
According to the police, it concerns five French men and one Belgian woman who are 18 to 27 years old. They were caught in a stairwell around 2:50 am. The police had been called after seeing surveillance cameras how several individuals with flashlights made their way through the iconic cathedral. The police also used a helicopter.
During a search of the cathedral, the police officers found that several doors had been broken open. They also found backpacks with climbing material and took a camera, among other things. The six have since been released again, but an investigation has been opened into a house breach and the cause of material damage.
