An indictment was filed against Faza Rafsanjanit daughter of the former president of Iran, Akbar Hashmi Rafsanjani after she claimed that her father did not die of a heart attack, but was eliminated by the Iranian security forces.
Rafsanjani, who was interviewed on the “Island of Fire” program, rejected speculations about the involvement of Israel or Russia. Her accusations come after the words of Rahim Spabi a senior military advisor to the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei rekindled the debate surrounding Rafsanjani’s death in January 2017 at the age of 82.
Spabi made a vague reference to “death in a swimming pool” in a public speech, a hint that many interpreted as referring to the seemingly mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of the former president, who had also amassed a fortune over the years. Spabi’s words were interpreted in political circles as a veiled warning toHassan Rouhania former president who recently often criticizes the Iranian regime.
According to the official version, Rafsanjani, who served as president between 1989 and 1997, died of a sudden heart attack while swimming alone. However, his family, including his son Mohsen Hashmiexpressed doubts about the investigative committee’s conclusions, especially in view of the absence of his permanent medical team at the scene of the incident.
Faaz Hashmia reform activist, claimed that her father’s political positions, including his defense of public liberties and his criticism of domestic policy, made him a target. The official news agency of the judiciary, Mizan, reported that following her claims, a legal case was opened against her and she was summoned to court.
