The invitation from the secretary of the Democratic Party to Atreyu agitates the minds of the center-left. Elly Schlein she accepted ‘with reservations’, saying she was ready only if she could deal directly with the prime minister Giorgia Meloni. A difficult requirement to respect, given that the program of the ten-year celebration of the Italian right, which will be held in Castel Sant’Angelo from 6 to 14 December, includes a series of panels with representatives of the majority and opposition in comparison and, only at the end, the intervention of the Prime Minister. “We are interested in not disrespecting the other leaders of the opposition parties who have given their availability without placing any conditions”, underlined the Fdi organization manager in recent hours Giovanni Donzelli.
On the hypothesis of a face to face he intervenes between the prime minister and the dem leader Giuseppe Contepointing out that he had received the same invitation last year and that he had accepted without placing any conditions. “Last year, when I was invited to Atreju, I too had explored Prime Minister Meloni’s availability for a direct discussion with me”, recalls Conte, “even more so since the first day in government the Prime Minister has used me, every other day, as scapegoat to hide the inadequacy of his executive. That availability was not given to me then. They are the hosts, it’s up to them to decide whether to change the format. As for me, I am still available for a democratic confrontation which I always consider useful even and above all in front of an audience that is certainly not benevolent towards me”.
The narrow margins for the Meloni-Schlein comparison
The prime minister will decide, but many in the Via della Scrofa party underline how the secretary of the Democratic Party is a party leader and not a coalition and that a possible two-way confrontation would upset the agenda of the event which envisages the intervention of the Prime Minister as the final act. From here i narrow margins for the eventuality of an opening. “He certainly can’t come and dictate the conditions in our house. And in any case, let him win the primaries first…”, the ‘refrain’ among the Brothers of Italy. “I hope that Giorgia Meloni don’t ‘run away’ from a comparison that would also be useful for the voters”, says the president of the Democratic Party senators Francesco Boccia.
The reactions of Avs
“If I were Elly Schlein I would carefully consider whether to go to Atreju after Meloni’s dramatic about-face”, warn from Avs. But also Nicola Fratoianni e Angelo Bonelli show different sensitivities regarding participation in the party. “I didn’t accept” the invitation, says Fratoianni, “I’m leaving the place to a journalist because if every now and then the prime minister offered to ask questions it would be a good thing. However, I thank you for the kind invitation received”, he adds. Bonelli, however, will go: “I was invited to a debate with Minister Urso on green deal and I accepted”, says Bonelli. Everyone was invited to the party event in via della Scrofa opposition leaderincluding Carlo Calenda and Matteo Renzi.
The topics under discussion: reforms and budget law
There will be center-right leaders and government members, with thematic ‘panels’. From the referendum on separation of careers (the date should be March 1st or 8th) at electoral lawfrom the budget law to the international scene. We will also talk about reformsfrom the premiership to Rome Capital. And the theme of the figure of the next could also emerge, at least among the ‘boatos’ of the stands centre-right candidate (one of the hypotheses is that we will go on a civil society profile) for the mayor of Rome (the vote will take place in the spring of 2027, with the possibility of an election day with other administrative rounds scheduled, from Turin and Milan, and the Policies).
