In the New York Times, a cable from Secretary of State Rubio was revealed calling on American diplomats in the West to pressure local governments to limit immigration.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio instructed US diplomats working in Europe, Canada and Australia to pressure local governments to limit immigration, as well as to report any situation in which the authorities tend to “support too much” immigrants, according to a report published tonight (between Wednesday and Thursday) in the New York Times. This is a step up in the Trump administration’s fight against immigration, which crosses US borders and becomes global.
According to a document passed to diplomats and revealed in the Times, Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, asked them to highlight crimes committed by immigrants to encourage countries to impose stronger restrictions on immigration. The document stated that diplomats should maintain regular contacts with host governments to raise US concerns about violent crimes involving immigrants, as well as any related human rights violations.
In addition, the diplomats were required to monitor crime by immigrants and report to the US State Department on the attitude of the host countries towards immigrants. The goal, according to the telegram, is to “build support from host governments and stakeholders to address and reform policies related to immigrant crime, protect national sovereignty and ensure the safety of local communities.”
The move comes as part of President Donald Trump’s hawkish policy on immigration. During his tenure, the US Immigration Service imposed unusual restrictions on foreign students and dramatically limited the number of refugees allowed to enter the US, along with unprecedented conduct by the US Immigration Service.

In a speech he delivered at the United Nations last September, Trump condemned what he called the “global immigration agenda.” The US State Department stated last week that “mass immigration poses an existential threat to Western culture and destabilizes allies of the United States.”
In recent months, there has been a wave of anti-immigrant policies in Europe as well, with the number of illegal immigrants arriving on the continent declining, according to the European Union’s migration authority. An example of this is Germany, where the law that facilitated rapid naturalization was repealed.
