Ireland in focus: instead of Herzog Park – Free Palestine Park

The park in Dublin is named after Haim Herzog (1918-1997), partly because of his connection to the country. Herzog was born in Belfast and grew up in Dublin. Herzog continued on his path until he served as the sixth president of the State of Israel. He was the son of Yitzhak Halevi Herzog, who served as the chief rabbi of Ireland and later as the first chief rabbi of Israel.

According to her, this erasure did not come gradually as she expected, but happened only a year later, in a deliberate and malicious manner by the political class in Ireland. Moizel concluded that Ireland is an institutionally anti-Semitic country, and that denying this fact in the face of such overwhelming evidence is sheer stupidity.

He also said that “Dublin Municipality has decided to remove the name of Haim Herzog – the sixth president of the State of Israel, who grew up in Dublin and his father was the chief rabbi of Ireland – from the name of a park in the city. What cannot be removed is the disgrace of the Irish anti-Semitic and anti-Israel obsession.”
