Ukraine hit two oil tankers used by Russia to export oil in the Black Sea with drones, according to Reuters, an official of the Security Service of Ukraine announced.
The joint operation to strike the so-called “shadow fleet” ships was led by Ukraine’s security service and navy, the official said on condition of anonymity.
Turkish authorities announced that explosions occurred on two tankers near the Bosphorus on Friday, causing fires on the ships and launching rescue operations for those on board.
A Ukrainian security service official said both tankers were empty and bound for the port of Novorossiysk, a major Russian oil terminal.
“The video shows that after the impact, both tankers suffered serious damage and were practically out of service. This will cause a significant blow to the transportation of Russian oil,” the official said.
He did not specify when exactly the strikes took place.
