Georgian Dream takes legal action against the BBC

Georgia’s ruling party is launching legal proceedings against the BBC on charges of spreading fake news.

The occasion is the investigation published yesterday by the British corporation, according to which the Georgian authorities may have used chemical weapons known from the years of the First World War when suppressing the opposition demonstrations in Tbilisi last year.

In a conversation with the British media, one of the Georgian protesters said that the jets of the sprinkler machines “burned” and that feeling continued even after washing his face. Several other protesters also reported breathing problems, coughing and vomiting.

“Georgian Dream” described these claims as nonsense and asserted that the investigation is based on the views of individuals connected with the opposition, not on facts.

Last year, after the parliamentary elections, thousands of people took to the streets in Tbilisi, when the victorious “Georgian Dream” announced that it was suspending negotiations on joining the European Union.
