The Spanish police have dismantled a cell of “The Base”, a group neo-Nazi and white supremacist designated as a terrorist organization by the European Union, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Law enforcement seized two firearms, ammunition and neo-Nazi propaganda material during raids in the eastern Spanish province of Castellón.
This US-based movement operates through a decentralized international network of paramilitary cells with the aim of carrying out attacks and preparing a “racial war”.
The investigation began at the beginning of this year and brought to light a Spanish cell whose members were “highly radicalized” and train yourself using “paramilitary techniques and equipment”.
In recent months, the suspects had encouraged the commission of violent acts, openly declaring that they were ready to carry out targeted attacks for the cause.
The cell leader was in “direct contact” with the founder of the American group, who recently called “targeted attacks aimed at overthrowing Western democratic institutions”.
Three people were arrested last week, including the leader of this Spanish cell, who was taken to prison. They are accused of belonging to a terrorist organization, recruitment, indoctrination and training for terrorist purposes, as well as illegal possession of weapons.
The American Rinaldo Nazzaro he founded the group in 2018 as a network of far-right nationalists preparing for armed conflict, before settling in St. Petersburg and acquiring Russian citizenship, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington-based think tank.
Last year, the European Union added “The Base” to its list of terrorist organizations, imposing sanctions on its members, including travel bans and asset freezes in Europe.
