Floods in Southeast Asia: more than 1,200 dead, hundreds missing

The number of flood victims in Southeast Asia has exceeded 1,200. Another 800 are considered missing, with little hope for their rescue. Millions of people lost their homes.

The main blow of the disaster fell on Indonesia and Sri Lanka; Malaysia and Thailand were also in the disaster zone. The Indonesian government sent hospital ships and ships with humanitarian aid to the affected areas, and helicopters were involved in search and rescue operations.

Southeast Asia is one of the regions most affected by global warming. The seasonal monsoon, accompanied by heavy rains leading to floods and landslides, is becoming increasingly severe.
