The United States Department of Defense stated this Tuesday that it has a contingency plan in case the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, flees the Latin American country, amid tensions between Washington and Caracas since the US military deployment in the waters of the Caribbean and the Pacific, alleging a fight against drug trafficking.
The Pentagon spokesperson, Kingsley Wilson, when asked at a press conference what measures Washington will take if Maduro leaves his country, has assured that this ministerial portfolio has “a response planned and ready”, and has said that they are at “the entire disposal” of the tenant of the White House, Donald Trump, “to do whatever is necessary.”
“We are always ready. We have plans for every contingency and we will ensure that, when it comes to drug trafficking, we dismantle it,” the spokesperson declared, after reiterating that her “goal is to eliminate narcoterrorists and eradicate that threat, which is poisoning the American people.” “This is a crucial mission to protect the country, and we are proud to be part of it,” he added.
In fact, he has confirmed that since they began the bombing campaign against ships in the region in September they have carried out “a total of 21 attacks against drug ships, with 82 narcoterrorists dead”, claiming that “each attack against these organizations is carried out in defense of the vital security of the United States.”
At the same time, as the White House confirmed the day before, it has confirmed a second attack against the survivors of a first bombing against a ship in which all eleven crew members finally died, maintaining that the decision – made by Admiral Frank Bradley and supported “one hundred percent” by the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth – sought to “guarantee the destruction of the ship and the elimination of a threat to the United States.”
“Every person we have attacked so far, who is on a ship with narcotics, is a narcoterrorist. (…) Our intelligence confirms with certainty who these people are. Without a doubt, all of our military and civilian lawyers know that these individuals are narcoterrorists. We know what they are carrying, where they come from and where they are going. And they are trying to bring drugs to our shores that kill and harm American citizens,” he assured.
