President Donald Trump said during a cabinet meeting this Tuesday (2) that the United States will “soon” begin carrying out attacks inside Venezuela, expanding the military offensive against groups that Washington accuses of trafficking drugs into North American territory.
As reported by the broadcaster CNNTrump stated that the operation – so far concentrated on attacks on drug trafficking vessels in the Caribbean and the Pacific – will advance to land targets because “we know where they (the drug leaders) live” and because “land is much easier” to reach.
In recent weeks, the American government has internally discussed the possibility of expanding the scope of operations against individuals Washington classifies as drug traffickers and narco-terrorists into Venezuela.
Trump has not ruled out carrying out attacks in countries other than Venezuela if the government determines that individuals are sending drugs to the United States.
“Anyone who does this and sells drugs to our country is a target for attack,” said the president.
