The Iraqi government has reconsidered its decision to recognize Hezbollah and the Houthis as terrorist groups. The clarification states that the restrictions were aimed primarily at organizations associated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State.
“The statement will be amended to include those who are not associated with al-Qaeda and ISIS,” the Commission on Combating the Financing of Terror said.
It should be noted that Iraq, a significant part of the population of which is Shiite, is an arena of geopolitical confrontation between the United States and Iran. The Houthis and Hezbollah are part of the terrorist network created by the Iranian regime. It also includes the al-Hashd al-Shaabi group, which is included in the Iraqi armed forces.
