The display case with the crown of the British Empire in the Tower of London was attacked with apple pie and custard, reports the BBC. A new civil resistance movement, Take Back Power, claimed responsibility for the incident.
Activists threw a pie into the window and poured custard on it. One shouted: “Democracy has collapsed,” while another added: “Britain is broken. We have come here to the nation’s treasure to take back power.”
The Take Back Power movement published a demand on social networks for the government to create a permanent citizens’ assembly, which they called the “House of the People.” This House should be empowered to “tax super-wealth and fix Britain”.
Police said four people were detained on charges of intentionally causing damage. The display with the Crown of the British Empire is temporarily closed.
