After serving a prison term – Nicolas Sarkozy is storming back into public life

At the same time, Carla Bruni was also dragged into the legal vortex. She faces a possible indictment for witness tampering, on suspicion of participating in a covert effort to persuade a broker to retract his accusations. The prosecutors stated that it is likely that the case will go to court, but Bruni denies any wrongdoing.

As part of the public comeback, Sarkozy is expected to launch this Wednesday a new memoir called “A Prisoner’s Diary”, written during his stay in prison. In excerpts leaked to the media, Sarkozy describes how he wrote the book with a ballpoint pen on a plywood table in his cell, and how he found solace in the Christian faith and prayer. The book provoked mixed reactions, with critics mocking the attempt to present the brief imprisonment as a deeply spiritual experience, while his supporters see it as evidence of his resilience.
