After Trump’s attacks, European leaders expressed support for Zelensky

A meeting between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz ended in London.

The main topic of discussion was US President Donald Trump’s initiative for a settlement in Ukraine, which provides for significant Ukrainian concessions to Russia. European allies expressed support for Zelensky and stated the need to provide Ukraine with security guarantees.

“I am skeptical about the details that we have highlighted in the documents coming from the American side. We intend to discuss this, and that is why we are here,” the German leader said before the start of the negotiations.

According to Macron, the purpose of the meeting is to coordinate the positions of the United States, Ukraine and its European allies. “This will allow negotiations to move to the next phase, the goal of which is to ensure the best conditions for Ukraine, Europeans and collective security.

Answering questions from journalists, Zelensky, without going into details, noted that several points that were clearly anti-Ukrainian were excluded from Trump’s plan. “But what if, after the end of the war, Russia begins a new aggression? What can Ukraine count on? What are our partners ready for? These questions are the essence of security guarantees,” he said.

Let us recall that the day before Trump held Zelensky responsible for the fact that the Russian-Ukrainian peace agreement has not yet been signed. The American leader said that the Ukrainian president did not even read the text developed by his administration.

Last week, special emissaries of US President Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held five-hour talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. They ended to no avail. The three-day meeting between Vitkoff and Kushner with the Ukrainian representative Rustem Umerov also did not bring results.
