This Tuesday, the chief negotiator of the Government of Nicolás Maduro, Jorge Rodríguez, said that “with absolute certainty” Venezuela will defend itself and will fight against possible aggression by land, sky or sea in the context of tensions with the United States.
“We are people of peace, but rest assured that if an aggression dares to enter sacred territory of Venezuelaor to our sacred sky, or our sacred seas and rivers, be absolutely certain that we are going to fight,” said Rodríguez when speaking at the People’s Assembly, inaugurated this Tuesday in Caracas and broadcast on the state channel VTV.
The president of the United States, Donald Trumpstated in an interview published this Tuesday that Maduro has his days “numbered” and did not rule out a possible land invasion of the Caribbean country.
“His days are numbered,” Trump declared in a conversation with Politico, after being asked how far he would be willing to go to remove Maduro from power.

The president avoided answering when journalist Dasha Burns asked him if a ground intervention with US troops deployed in Venezuelan territory.
“I don’t want to confirm it or rule it out. I don’t want to talk about it. Why would I talk about it with Politico, a publication so hostile to me?” he said.
Trump has also reiterated on several occasions that attacks against drug trafficking will begin “soon” within Venezuelan territory.
Despite the tension, Trump and Maduro held a telephone conversation in November which, according to sources consulted by The Washington Post, was cordial.
