The US government under President Donald Trump According to a media report, wants Austria and three other countries withdraw from the European Union.
Like the platform Defense One citing a longer, previously unpublished version of the new US security strategy Austria, Hungary, Italy and Poland listed as countries with which the U.S. “should cooperate more… with the aim of drawing them away from the (European Union).”
First had The standard reported about it online on Wednesday. Based on the premise that Europe faces “civilizational extinction” because of its immigration policies and “censorship of free speech,” the document proposes to focus U.S. relations with European countries on a few nations with like-minded – presumably right-wing – governments and movements.
The US national security strategy cited goes on to say: “And we should support parties, movements, and intellectual and cultural figures that seek sovereignty and the preservation/restoration of traditional European ways of life… while remaining pro-American.”
“Make Europe great again”
The Trump administration wants to “make Europe great again” while calling on European NATO members to wean themselves off American military support, Defense One wrote.
The US security strategy caused heated debates in the National Council on Wednesday. The NEOS used a Current Europe Hour to sharply criticize the FPÖ and what they see as the other “stooges” of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Now is the time to decide on a stronger, more self-confident Europe, demanded Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger (NEOS).
