Trump’s candidate loses: Eileen Higgins will become the first Democrat to serve as Miami mayor in 28 years

Higgins received 59% of the vote, and Republican candidate Emilio Gonzalez, for whom US President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis urged to vote, received 41%. Gonzalez had already called Higgins and congratulated her on her victory.

The majority of Miami’s population is made up of conservative Hispanics. Higgins, who speaks fluent Spanish, was able to attract voters to her side. She opposed Trump’s immigration policies and promised to improve the quality of life.
