Trump administration buys six Boeing 737s for $140 million to ‘more effectively’ deport immigrants

The American Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced this Wednesday that it was acquiring its own fleet of Boeing planes in order to better implement the policy of mass expulsion of undocumented immigrants desired by Donald Trump.

“These devices will allow ICE (immigration police) to operate more efficiently, in particular by using faster flight rates,” DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said on Wednesday on the X network, confirming information from the Washington Post.

According to the American daily, the DHS has reached an agreement for the purchase of six Boeing 737s for an amount of nearly $140 million from the firm Daedalus Aviation, specializing in commercial and charter aviation services.

The DHS spokesperson added that “this approach would save the American taxpayer $279 million”, compared to the price of new aircraft purchased from Boeing, whose order books are in any case full at least until 2030.

400,000 expelled

The American president has made tracking down illegal immigrants, which he has entrusted to often masked ICE agents, one of his priorities since returning to power in January and has implemented a policy of mass expulsion.

According to the American NGO Human Rights First, more than 1,700 flights of this type have taken place since January, to dozens of countries.

International organizations denounce numerous human rights violations committed by ICE as part of this anti-immigration policy, contested in court and strongly criticized by the Democratic opposition.

According to the Trump administration, more than two million illegal immigrants have left the United States since January: 400,000 deported and 1.6 million left voluntarily.
