Denmark reports “uncertainty” about the US in report

According to information from CNN and The New York Times, the document was produced by the Danish Defense Intelligence Service.

“The United States uses economic power, including threats of high tariffs, to impose its will and no longer rules out the use of military force, even against allies”, highlighted the report, which, in a broader context, warned that “great powers increasingly prioritize their own interests and use force to achieve their objectives”.

The report argued that “Russia’s military threat to NATO will increase” and that “there is uncertainty about the role of the United States as a guarantor of Europe’s security.”

Between his election in November 2024 and the first months of his second term, American President Donald Trump stated several times that he intended to annex Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, and did not rule out the use of military force to achieve this objective.

The Republican president, who has been reiterating that Europe must take care of its own security alone, also pushed for other NATO countries to invest at least 5% of GDP in defense by 2035, a target that was accepted at the summit of the Western military alliance held in The Hague, Netherlands, in June.

Furthermore, last week the United States released a new national security plan that expressed doubts about Washington’s continued partnership with Europe.

The plan warned of the risk of the end of “European civilization”, due to immigration and what it called censorship in Europe. In an interview with the Politico website on Monday (8), Trump deepened these criticisms, saying that the Old Continent today is full of “weak” leaders.
