In Florida, a small single-engine Orlican M8 Eagle aircraft lost power after takeoff, hit a palm tree and landed directly on the roof of a car driving on a highway in the Lake Worth Beach area (Palm Beach County).
The plane then crashed onto a walkway next to the roadway, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. A fire and leakage of a large amount of fuel were avoided.
There were a pilot and a passenger on board the plane, both received non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized.
In the car on the roof of which the plane landed were a 57-year-old woman and four children. They were taken to hospital for examination and their injuries were assessed as minor.
The investigation into the cause of the incident is being conducted by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
