The Moscow court sentenced several representatives of the ICC to prison in absentia

The Moscow court has sentenced several representatives of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to long-term imprisonment in absentia, who issued a warrant for the arrest of Russian President Putin.

According to the decision of the Russian court, the chief prosecutor of the international court, Karim Khan, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, of which nine years must be spent in prison, and eight judges were sentenced to three and a half to 15 years in prison.

The Russian side claims that Khan initiated illegal criminal cases against Russian citizens from February 2022, after Russia’s war against Ukraine, and the court issued illegal arrest warrants.

Following investigations launched by Khan in 2022, the International Criminal Court in March 2023 issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Children’s Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova, several senior Russian military officials, for alleged war crimes in Ukraine.
