Iranian authorities arrest human rights activist Narges Mohammadi again

Iranian authorities have arrested human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate 53-year-old Narges Mohammadi. This was reported by the Foundation in her name, which recently warned of the possibility of Mohammadi being re-arrested after she was previously jailed and released in December 2024 on medical grounds.

Mohammadi was detained at a memorial ceremony for a lawyer and human rights activist who was recently found dead under mysterious circumstances. Authorities did not provide any comments.

Although Mohammadi’s release was initially scheduled for three weeks, this period was extended amid Western pressure on Iran. During this period, the human rights activist continued to participate in protests.

In 2023, Narges was awarded the Nobel Prize “for her struggle against the oppression of women in Iran and her struggle to promote human rights and freedom for all.”
