“Al-Akhbar”: visits of Lebanese leaders to the United States are postponed “because of Israel”

The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, associated with Hezbollah, reported that the planned visit to the United States by Lebanese Army Commander Rudolf Haykal has not yet received approval from the American side. According to the publication, Washington “frozen” the invitation amid negotiations on a ceasefire agreement with Israel.

At the same time, it is emphasized that Haikal’s visit to the United States will take place, although it is not clear when.

The publication also says that current Lebanese President Joseph Aoun “will not be invited to Washington” until a number of conditions related to the implementation of a future ceasefire agreement on the Lebanese-Israeli border are met. The newspaper does not specify exactly what US demands are being discussed, citing anonymous sources.

There have been no official comments from Beirut or Washington regarding Al-Akhbar’s publication.
