Thailand will continue military action

On Saturday morning, both countries accused each other of attacking civilian areas. Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul wrote on Facebook that the military actions would continue “until we no longer see any danger or threat to our country and our people. I would like to make that clear.”

Fighting despite Trump’s attempt to mediate

The day before, US President Donald Trump After a telephone conversation with Cambodia’s Prime Ministers Hun Manet and Charnvirakul, both heads of government said they were ready to stop the fighting. The two countries themselves did not confirm the agreement.

The background to the border conflict is a decades-long dispute over Territorial claims. Both states accuse each other of first violating a ceasefire in the area along the approximately 800 kilometer long common border. The fighting has displaced more than 500,000 residents of the region and left more than 20 people dead, including several civilians. There were also hundreds injured as a result of the fighting.
