The Swiss celebrate yodeling as a world heritage

The Swiss want to give yodeling even more visibility as an important cultural tradition through the new recognition. Among other things, the singing form should, if possible, be part of the curriculum in primary school. Several classes have accepted an initiative that has already been started and showed their new skills in Schwyz. It is a requirement of UNESCO that world heritage sites are actively maintained, preserved and promoted.

In addition, teachers at the Mythenhaus conference and cultural center in Schwyz offered taster courses for those interested. When yodeling, you alternate between the low chest voice and the high head or falsetto voice. According to Professor Nadja Räss from the University of Lucerne, who has been offering a yodeling course for several years, practically anyone can learn to yodel. They always refer to yodeling as the “fifth national language of Switzerland”.
