Iran condemns Sydney attack – without mentioning Jews

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai condemned the terrorist attack in Sydney that killed 16 people. However, he did not mention that the victims were Jews who had gathered to celebrate Hanukkah.

“We fundamentally condemn the brutal attack on civilians in Sydney, Australia. Terror and massacres deserve condemnation wherever they occur – they are lawless and criminal,” he wrote on the social network X.

Let us note that Israeli representatives claim the possible involvement of the ayatollah regime in the terrorist attack in Sydney.

In August 2025, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the expulsion of the Iranian ambassador in Canberra and the closure of the Australian embassy in Tehran.

Albanese said the moves were a response to an intelligence agency investigation that found Iran was behind at least two anti-Semitic attacks in Australia.

“These were exceptional and dangerous acts of aggression perpetrated by a foreign state on Australian soil. They were attempts to undermine our social cohesion and sow discord in our community,” Albanese told reporters at the time.
