Iran says IAEA has no right to inspect affected nuclear sites

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Mohammad Eslami, said that the International Atomic Energy Agency does not have the right to demand access for its inspectors to sites damaged by military strikes.

“Before such permission is given, an appropriate protocol must be developed. The IAEA has not condemned these strikes and does not have instructions for such a case, so it does not have the right to send inspectors to the sites,” he said.

In November, the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency adopted a resolution requiring the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately provide information on its stockpiles of enriched uranium and the situation at the nuclear sites that were attacked.

The IAEA called on Iran to expand comprehensive cooperation, provide agency inspectors with accurate information about its stockpile of uranium enriched to weapons-grade levels, and provide access to the country’s nuclear facilities.
