Zelensky: “Ukraine is ready to renounce NATO membership subject to security guarantees”

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that Ukraine is ready to consider the issue of renouncing NATO membership, provided that the United States and European countries provide it with clear security guarantees that will ensure peace for Ukraine.

“From the very beginning, Ukraine wanted to join NATO – these are real guarantees of security. Some partners from the United States and Europe did not support this desire,” he said, calling the refusal to join the alliance a significant concession by the Ukrainian side.

The head of state said that Ukraine is ready for territorial compromises, but will not give up the territories under its control. He stressed that the world must be fair, first of all, for Ukraine, recalling that it was Russia that carried out the attack.

Negotiations between Zelensky and Special Representative of the US President Steven Witkoff, held on December 14 in Berlin, lasted five hours. Upon their completion, the American emissary declared that significant progress had been made. US-Ukrainian negotiations will continue on December 15.
