The European Parliament calls on Baku to release all political prisoners

“Further progress of relations with Baku should be connected with the steps to be taken in this direction,” the deputies of the European Parliament stated.

The document specifically points to the arrests of scientist Bahruz Samedov, a longtime supporter of relations with Armenia, and Talish researcher Iqbal Abilov, calling them illegal. European MPs state that their trial took place behind closed doors, the standards of a fair trial and the presumption of innocence were violated. The only evidence that was presented in court is the connections of young scientists with their Armenian colleagues. They were sentenced to 15-18 years in prison on charges of treason.
