One of them is the story of Gefen Biton, a 30-year-old Israeli, whose relatives say he tried to attack the terrorists and save human lives. The relatives who spoke with N12 identified him in the documents published in Australia, in which he can be seen running towards the terrorists and standing by Ahmed al-Ahmed’s side in the dramatic moments – until he was shot 3 times and hospitalized in critical condition.

Geffen’s relatives say that he came to the Menorah lighting event in Bondi with his best friend after a long trip in the area, and insisted on staying until the first candle was lit to soak up the feeling of the holiday. When they heard the first shots Gefen and his friend started to run, but the connection between them was cut off. A few minutes after the start of the attack, Gefen’s sister received a frantic call from her brother, who told her that he had been shot – and then the call was disconnected.

Geffen’s sister contacted his friends, who immediately began a search operation in the hospitals to find him. He was finally found by a friend in an operating room with severe gunshot wounds, and his condition is critical.

In the days that followed, his friends and family tried to understand how Gefen found himself so close to the terrorists, and how he was shot in the front of the body and not in the back. “There were a few things that didn’t work out for us. We saw from the location of his phone that in the end he ended up closer to the terrorists than where he started,” Tom Cohen, Gefen’s friend, tells N12.

A video that was published in the Australian media and happened to come into the hands of Gefen’s relatives shed light on the mystery – Gefen can be seen running towards the terrorists alongside Ahmed El Ahmed, who managed to neutralize one of them. He was shot 3 times by the second terrorist when he was standing next to the Muslim hero.

“Suddenly we connected all the dots – we understood what happened there. He ran to make contact with the terrorists,” says Tom Cohen, Gefen’s friend. Geffen’s sister adds: “We understand what really happened only in the last two days, that he was probably already in a safe place and decided to go back and try to take the weapon. As soon as he arrives and approaches the terrorist father, the son shoots him from the bridge 3 times and hits him in the lower abdomen.” His relatives say that he charged in order to save human life even though he was unarmed, in accordance with the values ​​he grew up with.

In the last few days, Geffen underwent no less than 5 surgeries, and his condition has stabilized a little, but he is still in a serious condition, sedated and ventilated. The bullets that hit him caused very serious injuries to his intestines, pelvis and hip.

In the attack in Sydney at the beginning of the week, 15 people were murdered and 42 were injured and taken to the hospital. The suspects in the shooting are a father and a son, who drew leave from ISIS. This is the deadliest terrorist incident in Australian history.
