Childcare workers raise an impressive amount for seriously ill baby Lize: “She constantly has burns”

“She constantly has burns and infections on her skin due to a problem in her DNA,” says Marie Jeannin, team leader at Lize’s Bubbelbos daycare center. “She also has seizures.”

Since her failure, baby Lize has not returned to daycare. She is now one year and two months old and is constantly moving between the intensive care department of Ghent University Hospital and at home.

The childcare workers stayed informed because her older sister Laura kept coming. They saw how much her parents struggled. “To keep her condition under control, Lize is given heavy medication. This is vital, but very expensive. It amounts to more than a thousand euros per month that is not repaid.

The parents are therefore not only confronted with significant medical concerns but also with financial concerns. To lend a helping hand, the childcare workers of the Bubbelbos are setting up a collection campaign. In recent weeks they have been selling candy bags with the help of local traders and organizations.

“The campaign has received a remarkable amount of support from the community. Hairdresser Renée, the local ping pong club, brasserie ‘t Smaak, the local Carglass, Ikea and De Buurderij all sold sweets for us.”

In this way, the supervisors were able to collect an impressive amount of 12,500 euros. They handed it over in full to the parents on Friday. “Lize is there today, but unfortunately she is not yet strong enough to come to childcare again,” said Jeannin. “We think of her every day and hope to welcome her again soon.”
