Rubio: “If Hamas can threaten Israel, there will be no peace”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the next step in the Gaza peace process should be the creation of a peace council and the identification of a group of technocrats. This will strengthen the stabilization forces and ensure day-to-day management of the enclave.

Asked about the possibility of Hamas keeping weapons, Rubio said: “If Hamas can threaten or attack Israel, there will be no peace. If in two years Hamas fires rockets at Israel or commits another terrorist attack like October 7, there will be no peace.”

He said: “It is impossible to convince anyone to invest in the Gaza Strip if people believe that in two or three years there will be another war there. Who will invest in rebuilding a place that will again be destroyed by war?”
