New “consultations” between Ukrainians, Americans and Europeans Friday in the United States

They are driven by “a constructive spirit”. Ukrainians, Americans and Europeans will therefore begin new “consultations” this Friday in the United States on Washington’s plan aimed at ending the war with Russia, announced kyiv’s main negotiator.

“We will begin a new round of consultations with the American side. At the invitation of the latter, our European partners are also participating in this format,” Roustem Oumerov said on X.

The direct inclusion of Europeans is a novelty compared to previous meetings which took place in recent weeks between Ukrainians and Americans in Geneva, Miami and Berlin.

The United States proposed a plan more than a month ago to end Russia’s war in Ukraine in February 2022. This initial text, which was seen as largely supportive of the Kremlin’s demands, has since been reworked after consultations with kyiv.

Ukrainian warning

The details of the new version are not known but, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, it involves territorial concessions from Ukraine in exchange for Western security guarantees.

The meeting comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that “the ball” was “in the court” of kyiv and its European allies in negotiations to end the war, with Russia having already agreed to “compromises” during its own talks with the Americans.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, visiting Warsaw on Friday to meet his Polish counterpart Karol Nawrocki for the first time, warned that in the event of Ukraine’s defeat, Russia would “inevitably” attack neighboring Poland.

For his part, American President Donald Trump does not hide his impatience to see the agreement adopted by kyiv and Moscow.
