Zelensky announces new sanctions against Russian companies, Chinese citizens and media

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced this Monday new sanctions against the network of Russian companies that in some way benefit from the war, as well as against several people of Chinese nationality who work with the Russian military industry and media outlets that justify the conflict.

“We are preparing several additional sanctions against Russian entities and those who contribute to Russian aggression by the end of this year. There will be at least one package of sanctions against people who work with the Russian military industry, not only from Russia, but also from China,” he highlighted on his Telegram account.

Zelensky has reported that this new package of sanctions, scheduled for the coming days, will also target the media that “justify and promote Russian aggression” and athletes who use their sports careers to “glorify” what Moscow has been carrying out in recent years.

Likewise, he has stated that they have already been working with European and Canadian authorities to coordinate new sanctions, especially those related to hitting frozen Russian finances and assets.

Zelensky’s statement comes the same day that the European Union has announced a new six-month extension of the trade and economic sanctions that have been imposed on Russia since 2014, due to the annexation of Crimea and subsequently for the start of this phase of the war in October 2022.
