Project day around ‘the light’ brings light and warmth to the Sint-Jan primary school

The range of workshops was varied and appealed to everyone’s talent. With teacher Tine and teacher Bert, the children delved into the world of stop motion. By taking many photos of an object that was moved slightly each time, they learned how images can come to life in a video.

Those who liked to be creative could make Christmas cards with Miss Christa and Miss Cindy. The cards were made with great care and warmth for people from the neighborhood. The oldest children were allowed to work freely with their own ideas, while the younger students and toddlers received support with examples, help and guidance. Each card carried a personal Christmas message.

Music was also not to be missed. In the Christmas music workshop of teacher Sara and teacher Hanne, the children enjoyed a fun quiz, learned to sing a Christmas carol and made music together with instruments. The atmosphere was festive and full of Christmas magic.

Those who preferred to move could visit Miss Lien and Miss Liesbet for a dance workshop. With cool dance moves in a Christmas jacket, the children shone like real stars on the dance floor.

A wonderful activity was baking star cookies with teacher Evi, teacher Karolien and teacher Evelien. Together the children mixed, rolled and cut crispy shortcrust pastry cookies. The cookies were beautifully packaged and intended to be given away, so that others could also enjoy this warm gesture.

Finally, there was the shadow play with teacher Lieze and teacher Kristien. The oldest children made their own shadow play behind a light cloth, while the youngest participants went on a flashlight search in a dark room. At the end, both groups came together for an enchanting performance.

All workshops focused on light: discovering the light within yourself, lighting the light together and being a light for someone else. The latter took concrete form by handing out Christmas cards and star cookies. Paul ensured that these gifts reached the local home nurses, who further distributed them to people from Berbroek.

The project day was a heart-warming example of how learning, sharing and caring for each other can go hand in hand – completely in the spirit of St. John’s lamp.
