An employee of the Elysee Palace and two more of his accomplices were arrested on suspicion of stealing silverware and porcelain tableware made at the famous Serves manufactory from the official residence of the French President.
The butler discovered the loss. The damage caused is 15,000-40,000 euros. Employees of the Sevres Manufactory discovered the missing items at online auctions. The investigation led to one of the keepers of the silverware, who admitted to the crime.
It was found that the man was in a romantic relationship with the manager of a company specializing in selling cutlery and other utensils online. Another 100 items were found at the suspect’s home, car and locker, including gravy boats and champagne glasses. Documents were also seized indicating that he was preparing new thefts.
The trial in this case will begin in February 2026. Everything stolen has been returned to the palace – unlike the French imperial family’s jewels stolen from the Louvre in October.
