Both defendants pleaded not guilty. Saadawi claimed that he cooperated out of fear for his life. Hussein did not testify, and was almost never present at his trial. On the first day he shouted at the court “How many babies?”, alluding to the war in Gaza. The two were convicted of one offense of preparing to commit acts of terrorism. Saadawi’s brother, Bilal, was convicted of not reporting information related to terrorism, but according to the prosecution he did not want to take part in the attack.
