From next week, the Ministry of Defense is sending calls for military service: All those who do not respond will be punished

Health examinations are planned for the second half of June, and the first invitations for the training itself should arrive during February. The first rotation of conscripts, about 800 of them, should begin around March 1 in the barracks in Požega, Slunj and Knin, although a slight shift in the date is possible.

Each two-month rotation will include about 800 trainees, and the training will be conducted by approximately 80 instructors. The barracks in Poga can accommodate around 400 conscripts, while Slunj and Knin will accommodate around 200 each.

During the two-month training, the cousins ​​expect a strictly structured military regime: waking up at six o’clock, lining up with the national anthem, intensive training during the day, evening free time and turning off the lights at 10 p.m. Training is conducted every day except Sunday, which is usually the only day off, and leaving the barracks is possible. is only with the approval of the commander.

Trainees will learn how to handle personal weapons, including the official VHS rifle of the Croatian Army, the basics of precision shooting, communication, providing first aid, as well as basic knowledge of modern military technologies such as combat drones. Part of the training will also take place at night, and the swearing-in ceremony is planned for about 12 days after arriving at the barracks.

While serving the basic military training, each conscript will receive compensation of around 1100 euros per month. After completing the training, conscripts remain in the reserve composition of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia until the age of 55, unless they decide on a professional military career.

More than 200 young people and councils. volunteered and underwent health examinations and will take part in the first rotation, while the rest will be filled with mandatory invitations. A health examination is mandatory for all invitees, and conscientious objection can only be submitted after it has been performed. The committee at the MUP decides on the justification of the complaint, and those whose request is approved will be sent to the civil service.

It is also possible to temporarily postpone the service, for example due to regular schooling, traineeship or starting a business, but this does not relieve the obligation of a medical examination. Young people with dual citizenship and residence abroad can regulate their military service in another country, while those with residence in Croatia are subject to conscription like the rest.

Failure to respond to invitations for a health examination or training is punishable by misdemeanor fines, while payment of the fine does not release the obligation to serve military service.
