United Kingdom: new charges of rape and sexual assault against comedian Russell Brand

British comedian Russell Brand, already prosecuted in the United Kingdom for rapes and sexual assaults that he denies having committed, was charged Tuesday with an additional rape and sexual assault, British police announced.

These new accusations “concern two new women and are in addition to the charges already brought against (Russell) Brand in April 2025 and which concerned four women,” detailed the Metropolitan Police in a press release.

The 50-year-old actor, now very active on social networks, is due to appear on January 20 in a London court. His trial on the first charges is scheduled to begin on June 16 at Southwark Criminal Court, south London.

“An important year”

Katy Perry’s ex-husband pleaded not guilty during a previous appearance last May. He will be tried for two rapes and several sexual assaults which he is accused of having committed in the coastal region of Bournemouth (southern England) and in London, between 1999 and 2005.

“2026 is going to be an important year”, with “great (…) trials”, reacted Russell Brand in a video posted onwith) redeem from (ses) numerous mistakes committed over the years.”

“I pray for the healing of all those I have hurt or offended during my years of wandering in sin,” he added, speaking of his faith.

A police investigation was opened against him after the broadcast of a documentary on the British channel Channel 4 in September 2023. After the first indictments, Russell Brand, who lives part of the time in the United States, said he was “grateful” to have the “opportunity” to defend himself.

“I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a drug addict, a sex addict, and an imbecile, but I was never a rapist,” he said in a video posted online, assuring that he had “never been involved in (relation) not consented.” The investigation continues and police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Conspiracy ideas

Born in 1975 into a family of modest origins in Essex, east of London, Russell Brand is followed by millions of people on YouTube, X and Instagram, where he regularly expresses his anti-system and conspiratorial ideas.

He began his career as a stand-up comedian as a teenager, and became known for his provocative and lewd humor, before becoming a star actor.

He presented a show on the BBC’s Radio 2 between 2006 and 2008, but quit after leaving a sexually explicit message for an actor about his granddaughter.
