Accident at Christmas: 6 dead in crash on country road

Brzeg (Poland) – The car immediately burst into flames: Six people died in a serious car accident on the morning of Christmas Eve.

A VW Passat and a Ford Kuga collided head-on in a curve on Highway 39 near Zielęcice (Poland) around 6:30 a.m. The village is located around 48 kilometers northwest of Opole (Lower Silesia).

Car caught fire after accident

“The Passat caught fire during the collision and burned out completely,” a spokeswoman for the Brzeg police told the Polish newspaper “Fakt” (like BILD, owned by Axel Springer).

There were five people in the VW at the time of the accident and the driver in the Ford Kuga. None of them survived. Everyone died from that Accident site.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident

The highway will remain closed for several hours. police and the fire department are investigating the cause of the accident and the identity of the victims on site. It is still unclear whether all of the victims were adults. According to the “Onet” portal (also Axel Springer), this was the third accident at this point in the past few days.

A spokesman for the Brzeg Fire Department said that the affected road section was safe and the accident was most likely due to weather conditions. It was partly cloudy but dry in the area on Wednesday morning. The temperatures were around freezing point. Investigators initially did not rule out the possibility that excessive speed could be a cause.
