Turkish Foreign Minister and Hamas leader discussed the second stage of the Gaza agreement

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met in Ankara with a Hamas delegation led by the group’s Politburo Chairman Khalil al-Hayya. The situation in the Gaza Strip and the transition to the second stage of the agreement were discussed.

“Türkiye will defend the interests of the Palestinians in the most decisive manner and in all arenas,” Fidan said. He also highlighted Turkey’s efforts to provide housing and humanitarian aid to Gazans.

His interlocutor said that Hamas was fulfilling all the terms of the agreement and accused Israel of constant violations of the agreements. According to al-Hayi, the purpose of these actions is to disrupt the transition to the second stage of the plan for a settlement in Gaza.

Let us recall: Idan previously stated that the implementation of the second stage of the plan to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip will start at the beginning of 2026. According to him, the priority is the creation of Palestinian self-government in the sector.

The statement was made by a politician in Damascus following consultations held a few days earlier in Florida with the participation of high-ranking representatives of the United States, Turkey, Egypt and Qatar, who acted as mediators in the settlement in Gaza.

The second stage of the plan provides for the further withdrawal of Israeli troops, the creation of a temporary power structure that will take over control of the sector, the formation of an international stabilization force and the disarmament of the Hamas terrorist group.
