ICRC visited all Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan

On December 24 and 25, the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross visited all the Armenians detained in Azerbaijan, Zara Amatuni, head of communication of the ICRC delegation in Armenia, told “Freedom”.

He mentioned that there was also a doctor in the visiting team, among the delegates.

“According to the procedures, during the organization’s meeting, both before and this time, of course, the focus was on health issues, people, their treatment and conditions of detention,” said Amatuni.

No parcels were handed over by the families, the visit was limited to private conversations of the organization, general assessment.

At the request of Baku, the International Committee of the Red Cross has stopped its activities in Azerbaijan.

Zara Amatuni explained that this visit was organized by the head office of the ICRC in Geneva, and “is the result of the dialogue between us and the authorities of Azerbaijan”.

“We are ready and open to continue our efforts in this direction,” he added.

According to official data, 23 Armenian prisoners are being held in Baku. They were in isolation for months.

Two days ago, it was reported that 70-year-old Vagif Khachatryan, one of the Armenian prisoners kept in Baku prison, was hospitalized. According to Azerbaijani sources, his well-being deteriorated sharply, he had shortness of breath and heart pain.

Today, after a trial that lasted only a few days, the court of serious crimes of the city of Ganja, Azerbaijan, sentenced 58-year-old Karen Avanesyan to 16 years in prison, accused of 8 serious charges.
