China accuses US of “accelerating war scenario”

Military spokesman Zhang Xiaogang declared on Thursday (25), at the Chinese Ministry of Defense’s monthly press conference, that the content of the American regulations related to Taiwan “blatantly interferes in China’s internal affairs” and “sends seriously erroneous signals” to the forces in favor of independence on the island.

According to the Chinese spokesperson, Washington “failed to fulfill its commitments” and “intensified” arms sales to Taiwan, a dynamic that, in his assessment, “accelerates the advance towards a dangerous war situation” and “seriously harms” peace and stability in the Strait.

Zhang stated that the United States “is using Taiwan as a tool to contain China” and that this strategy “will not be successful.”

“The attempt to use Taiwan to stop China is doomed to failure, and seeking independence through force leads to self-destruction,” said the spokesperson, while criticizing the island’s authorities for, as he said, “ignoring the interests and security” of citizens.

“The United States must act with the utmost prudence in matters related to Taiwan and adopt concrete measures to safeguard the stability of bilateral relations and ties between both Armies,” he added.

The statements come in a context of growing friction between Beijing and Washington over Taiwan, at a time when the United States has reinforced its political and military support for Taipei.

Although Washington does not maintain formal diplomatic relations with the island, it remains its main arms supplier and maintains a policy of strategic ambiguity regarding possible intervention in the event of a conflict.

China’s dictatorship considers Taiwan an “inalienable part” of its territory and does not rule out the use of force to achieve “reunification”, while the Taipei government rejects this stance and maintains that only the island’s inhabitants can decide their political future.

China announces sanctions on 20 US defense companies

China announced this Friday (26) sanctions against 20 US companies related to the Defense sector and ten of their executives for “participating in the supply of weapons to Taiwan over the past few years”.

In a statement published on its official website, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed sanctions in force as of today against American companies such as Boeing, Northrop Grumman Systems, L3Harris and VSE.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry warned in another text that “the Taiwan issue is the core of China’s fundamental interests and the first red line that must not be crossed” in relations between Beijing and Washington.

According to the announcement, the measures are adopted based on China’s Foreign Sanctions Law and affect both companies considered involved in arms sales or military services to Taiwan and executives to whom Beijing attributes direct responsibility for these operations.

The sanctions include, among other provisions, a ban on making new investments in China, restrictions on cooperation with Chinese entities and the freezing of assets that may be under the jurisdiction of the Asian country.
