The death toll from an explosion this Friday in a mosque located in a majority Alawite neighborhood of the Syrian city of Homs, located in the west of the country, has risen to eight, as confirmed by the authorities, who have denounced that it was a bomb attack.

The Syrian Ministry of Health has indicated that eight people have died and 18 have been injured as a result of the explosion, which took place in the Imam Ali ibn Abitalib mosque, located in the Wadi al Dahab neighborhood, as reported by the Syrian state news agency, SANA.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry has condemned “in the strongest terms” the “bomb attack” perpetrated at the mosque during Friday prayers, before highlighting that “this cowardly criminal act constitutes a flagrant attack on human and moral values.”

Thus, he pointed out that the attack “takes place in the context of repeated desperate attempts to destabilize security and stability and sow chaos among the Syrian people,” according to a statement on his account on the social network X.
