French police detained on Friday, December 26, a suspect in a series of attacks on women with a knife in the Paris metro – at the height of New Year’s Eve events. They were able to identify the criminal and track his location using outdoor surveillance cameras and localization of his mobile phone.
According to France 24, the attacks took place around 16:00 on the third line of the Paris metro: the suspect stabbed three women at Republique, Arts-et-Metiers and Opera stations.
The man was identified through surveillance cameras, after which police tracked the geolocation of his mobile phone, and he was later detained in the Val d’Oise area north of Paris.
French police will provide further information, including the extent of the victims’ injuries, at a later date.
